Ragunan Wildlife Park
Ragunan Wildlife Park, commonly known as Ragunan Zoo, is one of the favorite tourist destinations in Jakarta, offering an educational and recreational experience for visitors of all ages. Located at Jalan Harsono RM No. 1, Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, this zoo spans approximately 140 hectares and is home to over 3,000 animals from around 350 species. Ragunan Wildlife Park is not only a place for animal conservation but also plays a significant role in education and research on biodiversity.
The history of Ragunan Zoo began in 1864 when the Batavia Cynological Association (Batavia Dog Lovers Association) established a small area for animals in the Cikini area. In 1964, the zoo was relocated to its current location in Ragunan and developed into one of the best zoos in Asia. The park is designed with an environment that resembles the natural habitat of animals, allowing visitors to see animals in a more natural and comfortable setting.
Ragunan Wildlife Park offers various facilities and attractions that are appealing to visitors. One of the main attractions is the diverse collection of animals, including rare and protected species such as orangutans, Komodo dragons, rhinos, and Sumatran tigers. Additionally, there is an interactive area like a petting zoo that allows children to interact directly with gentle animals such as goats and rabbits. Visitors can also enjoy various supporting facilities such as restaurants, souvenir shops, and children's playgrounds.
Ragunan Zoo is also actively involved in conservation and education programs. The park collaborates with various international and national conservation institutions to preserve endangered species. Furthermore, Ragunan also offers various educational programs for visitors, especially school children, to increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of animal and environmental conservation. With its lush atmosphere and remarkable animal collection, Ragunan Wildlife Park is an ideal destination for families and nature lovers.
